Clinton County began having autocross racing at the Wilmington Airpark in 2011 and land speed racing in 2012. The SCCA, MVSCCA and the ECTA has become part of the Wilmington family. I had never been to any kind of car or motorcycle racing event before I watched autocross last year and even got to ride as a passenger in one of the cars that ran the course. Let me tell you, my heart was in my throat the entire time. How exhiliarating! Each cone that the car would maneuver felt like the car was going to turn over even though we were going less than 60 miles per hour.
Land speed racing is about cars and motorcycles seeing what speed they can achieve from a complete stop to a one mile marker. Just as exciting, just different.
I guess you could say that racing has gotten in my blood. I now own t-shirts, sweatshirts, visor and tank top advertising the racing organizations. Not only do I wear them but I’m also proud of it! What is all the buzz? It’s seeing the excitement and pleasure each driver has on his/her face after completing a good run. You feel that enthusiasm eminate from their very pores.
I love it drivers and look forward to your return events in Wilmington. I may even have to purchase some more racing memorabilia.
